Christians around the world will mark the Season of Creation from 1 September to 4 October, joining in prayer, reflection and action as they celebrate God’s gift of creation and renew their commitment to care for our common home.

This season incorporates the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (1 September), Feast of Creation in Christ (1 or 6 September) and the Feast of St Francis of Assisi (4 October).

The 2026 Season of Creation is centred on the theme ‘Living Water’, inspired by Ezekiel 47:9 and 12. In this beautiful vision, water flows from God’s sanctuary, bringing healing, restoration and new life wherever it goes. Emerging from a context of exile and loss, the passage offers hope that God’s renewing presence can restore damaged ecosystems, strengthen communities and inspire faithful stewardship of creation.

This year’s symbol, ‘Immersion in Living Water’, invites Christians to step into God’s life-giving river until they depend fully on God’s grace. As recipients of this living water, the resource explains, believers are called to become channels of hope and renewal, allowing God’s love to flow through them into the world. The symbol also encourages reflection on the suffering of creation and solidarity with communities most affected by environmental degradation.

“For us in the Pacific, water is lived reality. Water surrounds us, sustains us and connects us,” says Rev James Bhagwan, General Secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches. “Yet our living waters are wounded by warming seas, pollution, plastics, extractive industries, biodiversity loss and the continuing failure of those with the greatest responsibility to act with justice.”
