A Committee of the Uniting Church in Australia National Assembly
Initial three-year term
The Assembly Finance Audit and Risk Committee (AFARC) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified people who are interested in contributing their expertise to the governance of the National Assembly. The National Assembly includes the Assembly Secretariat together with national agencies Frontier Services, UnitingWorld and UnitingCare Australia.
An initial appointment will be for 3 years. AFARC plays an important role in supporting the Assembly by providing independent oversight of its financial stewardship, risk management, governance, compliance and assurance. Committee members contribute to strengthening the effectiveness and accountability of the National Assembly and its agencies.
We’re seeking people who have:
i. experience in governance, financial management and/or risk management;
ii. relevant professional qualifications or experience;
iii. sound strategic judgement; and,
iv. an understanding of or willingness to learn the context, decision-making framework and governance structure of the Assembly.
At a high level, the functions and responsibilities of the Committee fall into the following key areas:
i. External reporting, including compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and best practices;
ii. Financial management, including accounting and business policies and practices, budgets, and management reporting;
iii. External and internal audit and controls; and,
iv. Oversight of risk management policies and practices.
This is a voluntary role with reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses. Applications are welcome from members and non-members of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA). A majority of AFARC must be UCA members. Applicants from across Australia are encouraged to apply.
The Committee generally meets three (3) times a year in person, typically on Mondays between 10am and 3pm in Sydney or Canberra. Members also participate in several shorter online meetings during the year.
This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the governance and stewardship of the National Assembly of the Uniting Church.
