Governance, Resourcing and Administration Commission update
Executive Officer Dr Paul Minty writes how the Commission for Governance, Resourcing and Administration continues to advance the Act2 vision, with nationwide consultations and key workstreams shaping a more connected, sustainable and mission-focused Uniting Church

The CGRA was formed by the 17th Assembly to progress, implement and realise the Assembly’s vision for the Church’s ordering and resourcing:
“A network of deeply connected councils responding to God’s call to enter more fully into mission through healthy oversight of ministry and mission, celebrating our diverse and shared identity and being faithful stewards of our common life and wealth.”
The Uniting Church in Australia’s Commission for Governance, Resourcing and Administration (CGRA) met on 20 May 2026, with discussions focused on advancing CGRA key work streams supporting the Commission’s task given in the 17th Assembly.
Members of the CGRA are currently travelling across Australia to meet with leaders of Presbyteries, Synods, National Conferences, and agencies to discuss variations to our current council responsibilities. This video Collaborative engagement Phase from our chairperson, Rev David Fotheringham, was prepared to help participants understand the context and purpose of workshopping variations to our current arrangement of council responsibilities.

Consultations have already been held in Darwin, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, with further consultations to be held in Melbourne, Hobart, Brisbane and Perth. All of the consultations have been rich discussions of local insights and a strong spirit of wanting to be supportive of congregational life right across Australia. These consultations are contributing to greater clarity and detail in the work of the CGRA, for which we are grateful to all who have participated so far.
Work has also begun on the Equitable Church-wide Resourcing workstream, including development of national resourcing mechanisms led by a task group of CFOs, Synod leaders and consultants, with completion targeted for later in 2026.
It has been inspiring and encouraging to be in discussion and fellowship with a diversity of people during the consultations so far, all united in Christ and desiring to participating in Christ mission of reconciliation.
