August update from Act2 TFL Commission
The Commission for Theology, Formation and Leadership welcomed Rev Dr Sunny Chen and progressed key work strengthening theological formation, collaboration, leadership and relationships across the Uniting Church.

The Commission for Theology, Formation and Leadership met via Zoom on 14 August to progress several important areas of work supporting the life of the Uniting Church.
The meeting marked Rev Dr Sunny Chen’s first meeting with the Commission in his new role as Director, Faith and Theology. Members welcomed Sunny to his role as a non-voting member of the Commission, and look forward to working with him as the Commission continues its work.
A key focus was strengthening relationships following the Commission’s follow up consultation with the Queensland Synod and Trinity College Queensland. The Commission recognised the importance of continuing advocacy around Phase 2 formation, strengthening collaboration across Synods, and supporting healthy relationships between each Synod and theological education providers. The Commission will continue to encourage colleges to participate in national conversations and opportunities for collaboration, including the National Theological Educators Gathering in December.
Strengthening theological guidance was another significant focus. The Commission agreed to create opportunities at the National Theological Educators Gathering to explore the development of theological culture across the Uniting Church.
Consultations will commence in November with Synods, Ministerial Education Boards and Theological Colleges to progress the work on finding a potential Single Higher Education Provider.
Finally, Rev Dr Cathie Lambert tendered her resignation as Chair of the Commission. The Commission and the Assembly are deeply grateful to Cathie for her contribution and commitment during her time as Chair and continues to wishes her every blessing for the future. Work has commenced to identify the Commission’s next Chair.
The Commission will meet online again on 29 October before convening in person in November.
