Remembering the Armenian Genocide
April 24 marks the 109th anniversary of the Armenian genocide. The Uniting Church in Australia formally acknowledged the Armenian Genocide at its 14th Assembly meeting in 2015.
We share this prayer from Uniting Church minister Rev Levon Kardashian who is the grandson of a genocide survivor.

God of enduring faithfulness,
Today, we remember the Armenian Genocide,
a dark chapter in human history marked by unspeakable suffering and profound loss.
Yet, amidst the darkness,
your light has shone through the unwavering faithfulness of the Armenian people.
We thank you for their steadfastness in the face of persecution
and for their resilience in the midst of unimaginable trials.
Their faith has been a beacon of hope in the darkest of nights,
guiding them through the depths of despair.
As we remember the pain of the past,
we pray for the healing of the deep wounds that still linger
in the hearts and minds of the Armenian community.
May your comforting presence be felt in every moment of anguish,
bringing solace and peace to those who continue to carry the scars of trauma.
We lift our voices in prayer,
asking for your divine intervention to bring about a future
filled with brightness and justice for the Armenian people.
May their suffering not be in vain,
but serve as a catalyst for positive change in the world.
Grant us the courage to confront injustice wherever it may be found,
and the wisdom to build bridges of reconciliation and understanding.
With hopeful hearts, we entrust the future into your hands,
confident in your promise to bring about redemption and restoration.
In your mercy, O God, hear our prayer. Amen.
