Proposal passed on Mercer Beneficiary Fund
Assembly directs the Beneficiary Fund Committee to report to the Assembly Standing Committee as part of a process of monitoring the Mercer Super Trusts sustainable portfolio.
July 15, 2024
The 17th Assembly has passed a proposal directing the Beneficiary Fund Committee to report to the Assembly Standing Committee (ASC) as part of a process of monitoring the Mercer Super Trusts sustainable (ethical) portfolio.
The proposal was moved by Peter McDonald in response to Mercer’s report earlier in the meeting. Seconder of the Proposal, Rev Sue Page, shared: “ASIC civil proceedings against Mercer is the first in Australia for greenwashing conduct. It is extremely disappointing the fund we entrust our members’ superannuation to is misleading members.”
The decision directs the Beneficiary Fund Policy committee to identify whether the Beneficiary sub-plan is exposed to the Mercer Super Trusts sustainable (ethical) portfolio and to monitor Mercer’s provision of an ethical portfolio for UCA members through the beneficiary sub plan.
The proposal was adopted by the Assembly with consensus.
