Ecumenical engagement in the UCA
The Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) in its founding document The Basis of Union, declares its commitment to ecumenism (paragraph 2). The UCA believes Christians in Australia are called to bear witness to a unity of faith and life in Christ which transcends cultural and economic, national and racial boundaries. In response to these ecumenical commitments, since Union, the UCA Assembly of the UCA:
- Established and maintained membership of a range of national, regional and international ecumenical bodies. Synods and other groups also participate in state-based Councils of Churches and local ecumenical groups and activities.
- Developed and continues dialogues with Christian denominations within Australia, in keeping with our commitment to “seeking union with other Churches”.
- Maintained relationships with churches with whom we share a parent communion and have a history of engagement.
- Through UnitingWorld, developed 36 Partner Churches with whom the UCA relates.
