Being intentional about leadership

Virginia Lavaki, Tongan National Conference Second Gen Leader, shares her dreams for Discipling the Next Generations.

I recently attended the Tongan National Conference (TNC) Executive meeting at Canterbury Uniting Church in Melbourne Victoria . We met to finalise all matters before the Tongan National Conference, to be held on 5-7 October in Katoomba, NSW.

Even though it was cold, wet and windy our hearts were warmed with the hospitality and love from the Canterbury congregation. It was a wonderful weekend of fellowship, sharing and of course eating.

I was blessed to share and learn from ministers and leaders of different congregations throughout Australia. Through this sharing, I was struck by the importance of leadership and mentoring within our communities and our churches.

As the TNC 2nd Gen leader, it is important that I help guide my team to make all our programs intentional so that we can help empower, encourage and enrich our young people. The 2nd Gen are not the future but are the NOW of the Church.

The vision and hope of the 2nd Gen team is to help make disciples of the young people. When they are ready to step up and take their place in the Church, they are ready with confidence and knowledge to do whatever God has called them to do.

May we continue to pray, nurture and love not only our 2nd Gen but all the generations to come! Peace be with you all!
