2025-2026 Uniting Church Lectionary available now
The Assembly has released the 2025-2026 Uniting Church Lectionary (Year A), a key resource for preaching and worship leading in the 'Year of Matthew'
October 6, 2025
The 2025-2026 Uniting Church Lectionary is now available to download from the Assembly, and available to order from Wayzgoose, the online store for Uniting Church resources.
This year's lectionary continues with the new-look poster format for easy reference. It includes listings of special days officially adopted by the Assembly. The list of resources and commentaries is hosted online and accessible from the poster by QR code.
The Assembly is very grateful to the Assembly Transforming Worship Circle for their work in preparing this resource and to the team at Wayzgoose for their diligent design and printing services.
The Year of Matthew
Uniting Church President Rev Charissa Suli writes in the lectionary introduction:
"Matthew’s account speaks directly to communities seeking to live faithfully in complex times. It is a gospel rooted in Scripture and tradition, yet radically open to the new work of God in Christ. Written for a diverse and often pressured community, Matthew weaves together a story of Jesus as Emmanuel - “God with us” - from his birth to the promise of his abiding presence at the close of the age."
"This year we will hear the voice of Jesus the Teacher. Matthew frames Jesus’ ministry around five great discourses, echoing the five books of Moses. In these we encounter the Sermon on the Mount with its call to a deeper righteousness; parables of the kingdom that reveal God’s upside-down reign; instructions for life together as disciples; and visions of judgment and hope for the nations. Matthew continually invites us to see not only what Jesus does but what it means to follow him: to embody mercy, humility, justice and courage in our own context."
The printed leaflet is available to order from Wayzgoose. A PDF can be downloaded below.

What is a lectionary?
The lectionary offers four readings from Scripture designed to be used as the basis for weekly preaching and worship. The Uniting Church in Australia promotes the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL), which follows a three-year repeating cycle.
"The lectionary encourages us to connect the stories of our lives to the story of God’s faithful throughout Scripture," writes Circle Advocate Matthew Julius. "These texts are not simply offered to focus our sermons, but also to shape our prayers and liturgy and song."
"Lectionaries offer us a sign of unity with other churches who share in the same readings week by week. At the same time, the RCL often omits stories about women, and more difficult texts within Scripture. Local leaders should consider making sure the full witness of Scripture is heard across the life of the community."
