Celebrating 20 years of Uniting in Worship 2, the Uniting Church's worship book
July 2025 marks 20 years since the publication of Uniting in Worship 2, the second edition of the Uniting Church's authorised book of worship
August 1, 2025
The month of July 2025 marked 20 years since the publication of Uniting in Worship 2, the worship book of the Uniting Church in Australia.
In honour of the anniversary, the Assembly has released two new videos featuring the reflections of members of the then National Working Group on Worship who saw the publication of Uniting in Worship 2.
In the first video, then-Working Group Convener Rev Dr Paul Walton, with Rev Dr David Pitman and Rev David MacGregor, catch up over coffee. In the second, Rev Dr Anita Monro offers a reflection from Brisbane. Together they explore the unique gifts and contributions of Uniting in Worship 2, from the inclusion of lament to the use of inclusive language for God.
In an introductory video, Advocate of the Transforming Worship Circle Matthew Julius explores how Uniting in Worship 2 invites us to worship with what is called ‘Ordered Liberty.’
"Much more than texts or triangles, this pattern draws us into the very heart of worship. As we gather as God's people, receive God's Word, respond in Thanksgiving, and are sent out for God's work in the world we are drawn into the drama of God's life and love given for the world."
"As we imagine what uniting in worship might mean into the future we are tasked with rediscovering anew the heart of worship. Learning from the best wisdom of the tradition, the continuing witness of contemporary voices, and what the Spirit is birthing in our diverse contexts."
The Uniting Church Assembly has now made Uniting in Worship 2 available online for free in the refreshed uHub on the Assembly website. The material which was previously only available on the CD-ROM is now also publicly available.
An introduction to the 20th Anniversary
"Participatory worship [therefore] is always the guiding principle. The congregation is not an audience."
