Uniting in Prayer is an invitation for the whole Church to slow down, listen deeply to God, and reconnect with one another across cultures, communities and distances.
From Pentecost Sunday on 24 May to the 49th Anniversary of the Uniting Church in Australia on 22 June, we are embarking on a shared season of national prayer.
Over these 30 days, 30 voices from across the Church will come together. Each day, a new voice will lead us in praying as one body around a single, unifying question: “What does it mean to be woven together in Christ's love across cultures and boundaries?”
Day 2: Listening to the Ancient Voice
Scripture Focus: Job 12:7-8 (“But ask the animals, and they will teach you...”) or Psalm 19.
Creator God, Sovereign Spirit,
You breathed life into this ancient land and placed us as its First Peoples, embedding Your law, Your care, and Your wisdom into the very dust, waters, and skies. Long before the tall ships arrived, You were here, speaking to our Ancestors.
As we begin this season of prayer, we ask for the grace of dadirri—a deep, still, mindful listening. Quiet the noise of our busy structures. Soften the hearts of the wider Church so they might listen not just to our words, but to the groaning of the land and the quiet strength of our elders.
We lament that for too long, our voices have been sidelined. Yet, in Your grace, You call us back to the campfire of fellowship. We pray for a spirit of profound listening across the Uniting Church this week. May we hear Your voice anew in the rustle of the leaves, the cry for justice, and the shared silence of believers waiting upon You. Re-centre us in the love of Jesus, who walked humbly and listened deeply to the marginalised.
Amen.
