Join The People's Blockade 2025
Find out how to join others from the Uniting Church at The People's Blockade this weekend, one of Australia’s most iconic and creative climate action events held on the foreshore of the world’s largest coal port
November 27, 2025
This weekend, members of the Uniting Church are invited to join thousands of people taking part in The People’s Blockade at the Port of Newcastle, one of Australia’s most iconic and creative climate action events. Held on the foreshore of the world’s largest coal port, the Blockade brings communities together in a spirit of hope, urgency and collective action for a safer climate future.
Across two days of music, prayer, speeches and peaceful on-water action, UCA members will stand alongside other people of faith, calling for a rapid and just transition away from fossil fuels. From 29-30 November there will be some dedicated gathering points for Uniting Church participants and clergy.

Walk together to the main stage for the opening program. The Moderator will be among the speakers (scheduled at 10:33am). Please come along to show your support.
1:00pm – ARRCC Flotilla
Those who wish to take part in the on-water action are invited to join the ARRCC (Australian Religious Response to Climate Change) flotilla, with two boats available (arrestable participants and non-arrestable). Please contact ARRCC to express your interest in a place on the boats.

9:00am – Folk of Faith Flotilla
Faith communities will again join an on-water action, with two faith-designated boats (arrestable and non-arrestable).

Participants are encouraged to wear visible signs of faith or Uniting Church identity. Clergy are invited to wear collars or other symbols of ministry, such as collars and stoles, especially on Saturday morning.
Whether you join the conversation, stand with the Moderator at the mainstage, take part in interfaith prayer, or step onto one of the action flotillas, your presence is a meaningful witness to our commitment to care for God’s creation and seek climate justice for all.
