UCA extends condolences on passing of Rev Dr Salim Sahyouni

The Uniting Church is deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of Rev Dr Salim Sahyouni.

Rev Dr Sahyouni was the President of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon.

Prior to this role he served as President of the Supreme Council of the Evangelical Churches in Syria and Lebanon, during which time he hosted a delegation from the Uniting Church including the then President Stuart McMillan (pictured). At that time, the UCA delegation which included Rev. Dr Krikor Youmshajekian, Rev Dr Emanuel Audisho, Rev Gaby Kabrossi and Rob Floyd visited churches in Lebanon to offer the hand of Christian friendship and support to them as they minister under difficult contexts.

Rev Dr Sahyouni was strongly committed to the churches in Syria and Lebanon working together for peace and justice for all people.

We offer our sympathies and our prayers to the wider Christian community in Syria and Lebanon, the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon and to Rev Dr Sahyouni’s family.
