Throughout the month of September, Christians across the world will celebrate the Season of Creation, an annual invitation to pray and reflect on our shared call to care for the earth - our common home and the blessed, beloved creation of God.
The Season of Creation takes place from 1 September (World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation) to 4 October (Feast of St. Francis of Assisi) under the 2024 international theme, ‘Hope and act with creation'. The symbol, 'The firstfruits of hope', is inspired by Romans 8:19-25 and the biblical image of Earth as a mother groaning as in childbirth.
President Rev Charissa Suli writes in the Assembly's 2024 Season of Creation resource:
"As President, I have emphasised the theme, Threads of Love, Weaving Christ’s love across cultures and boundaries. This theme is powerfully connected to the Season of Creation, as our care for the Earth transcends all human divisions."
"Just as we are called to weave threads of love in our communities, we are equally called to weave these threads into our relationship with creation, recognising that every act of care for the environment is an act of love for our global neighbours and future generations."
"As we weave Christ’s love into the fabric of our daily lives, may we also weave it into the very soil, waters and skies that sustain us, honouring God’s gift of creation with every step we take."

A message from Fiji for the Season of Creation
While in Fiji for the Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Fiji, President Rev Charissa Suli filmed this video with Frances Namoumou who is Programmes Manager with the Pacific Conference of Churches (PCC). Frances was key in developing this year's PCC Season of Creation resource.
Speaking from one of the most vulnerable nations on earth to climate change, Frances urges Christians everywhere to "not just talk about creation but live with, be in sync with creation."
The President calls upon Uniting Church members "to amplify the good news we have to tell as we continue to care for God's creation and take action together."
