Celebrating the Reign of Christ
November 16, 2022
This Sunday 20 November is Christ the King Sunday, also sometimes known as Reign of Christ Sunday. Taking place every year on the Sunday before the beginning of Advent, Christ the King Sunday marks the end of the liturgical year. It is a day to proclaim the coming reign of Christ and to reflect on the shape that power and leadership take on in the life and ministry of Jesus.
Rev David MacGregor is a member of the Assembly's Transforming Worship Circle and has written this poetic reflection to mark the day. David has generously made this available in both a written and a spoken form. You might like to use them in your own worship.
Reign
Christ
You reign
You rule
You come among us
You suffer
You die
You overcome!
You serve
You befriend
You release
You forgive
You are hope
You are love
You are God!
Jesus, you reign on high
Jesus, you reign in the lowest of places
With nail-scarred hands
You reign for the powerless
the most forgotten
the most marginalized.
Christ, that’s how you rule.
Christ, that’s how you reign.
With Love that stretches high
Love that reaches low
Among us
With us
For us
Forever
