Webinar & Worship Event Details


OCTOBER 3 ONLINE WEBINAR AND OCTOBER 4 ONLINE WORSHIP:  

On Saturday October 3, the President will host a Webinar with three one hour sessions to open up the conversation about God’s call to us in our everyday lives, and to showcase some of the content of the 2021 President’s Conference. 

SESSION ONE: CALLED BY GOD 1-2pm AEST  

We will hear about the Biblical themes on call and some insights and reflections about our response to crises in our contemporary Australian context. 

Speakers include: Rev Dr Ockert Meyer and Rev Dr Stephen Robinson

SESSION TWO: EVERY MEMBER MINISTRY 2.30-3.30  AEST 

We will hear from people who are living their Christian vocation in various ways through their work settings, through ordained and lay ministries, through advocacy and community work, and through their everyday living. 

Speakers include: Rev Mark Kickett, Rev Radhika Sukumar-White, Rev Charissa Suli, Ms Catherine Pepper, Rev Alistair Macrae and Ms Rhanee Tsetsakos

SESSION THREE: FAITH IN PUBLIC LIFE  4-5pm  AEST  

A discussion with people who are engaged in public life in a rich diversity of ways, who will invite us to think about ways we are living our Christian vocation, and embodying God’s justice, compassion and hospitality through our local congregations, community service, advocacy and work context. 

Speakers include: Assoc. Prof. Lorna Hallahan, social worker and disability advocate currently working as a researcher for the Royal Commission on Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability; Mr Mark Henley, Manager of Advocacy and Communication for Uniting Communities in Adelaide; Prof. Ian Olver, medical oncologist, cancer researcher, bioethicist and lay preacher; Dr Sureka Goringe, National Director of Uniting World, Rev Sandy Boyce, President of Diakonia World Federation

SUNDAY OCTOBER 4: 9:30 AEDT (Daylight savings begins in NSW, ACT, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania on this day)

Worship is available in several ways – 

  1. Livestreamed through the Uniting Church in Australia Facebook account.
    After broadcast the full service will be uploaded to the Uniting Church in Australia Vimeo account. 
  2. As a fully-produced video worship service, which is available to download and share with your congregation/community via Zoom. Closed captions are available for the service.       
  3. As a written liturgical resource, a short pre-recorded sermon from the President, and some musical items that you may use with your own community.

These resources, an Order of Service and a transcript of the President’s sermon are available in this shared folder. 

Registration for the webinars is free. 

Webinars will be recorded and they will be made available for people to use in their local context at a later date. The President is offering to join people’s conversations online, if they are using the recordings of the webinars.
