This year, we’re excited to be featuring some of the inspirational people who make up the Uniting Church. Check out the growing hub of stories here. If you know of someone with a great story to tell, contact us and nominate them to be featured.
This week we catch up with Dominic Chan. Dom is currently candidating for ministry, and just concluded a student placement with St Lucia Uniting Church. Dom's home congregation is Emmanuel Uniting Church in Brisbane.

What’s your Uniting Church story?
I grew up in the Uniting Church and was baptised at around the age of 6 or 7 years old. Throughout my faith journey, I have spent most of my time in the same congregation (over 20 years!) until my recent departure to respond to what I believe is God's calling to ordained ministry.
What enlivens your faith in Jesus?
I find the stories that I hear of the ways in which God has been at work in people's lives to be really inspiring and encouraging. Additionally, I find worship music to be a helpful way to dwell in the presence of God and focus my attention on God.
What’s one thing happening in your community that’s really exciting for you?
One thing that is really exciting is that the church is connecting with people who are exploring faith but are not sure about who God is or whether they believe. It's a sign that the culture of the church and leadership is such that those who are seeking to learn more feel safe to do so.
What’s one thing you love telling people about the Uniting Church?
One thing that I love telling people about the UCA is that we really believe the spirit moves in and through people which means people have an opportunity to share where they feel God is moving when we seek to discern God's will in meetings.
What's one thing you'd like to change, or something you hope for?
One thing I hope for is that local congregations would be inspired and excited by God's mission in the world to reconcile creation back to him which results in more people coming to know and love Christ.
What's one thing you would like the rest of the Uniting Church to pray for?
I would like the church to pray that the church would always be God's church, reflect God's love, and join in with God's will being seen on earth as it is in heaven.
