Lets Lent with Rev Charissa

Every Wednesday night during Lent, Assembly National Consultant Rev. Charissa Suli is hosting a time of prayer on Instagram.

Charissa said her hope was to take the Gospel to young people in the places where they can be found – online and on their phones.

“My hope is to reach out to a community who is online 24/7 and simply pause, reflect, pray and sing with them,” said Charissa.

“They’ll hear a message of hope and some beautiful Gospel music to encourage them for the wilderness journey we continue to embark on in this season.”

Charissa said some young people had become disconnected from their worshipping community since COVID and some were so busy they didn’t make it to Church on Sunday. This was one way she could reach out to them.

For Charissa, it’s part of her own Lenten journey too. She’s decided during Lent she will “give up bread, which I love, support the Lent Event project for Uniting World and take on the spiritual discipline of sharing the Gospel beyond my familiar and comfortable pulpit inside the Church building.”

In the second week of Lent, Charissa has invited Lapi Mariner to join and share his soulful singing as part of the worship time.

Tune in on Wednesdays from 8.30pm on Instagram @Charissa Suli and @UnitingChurchau
