What is a lectionary?
A lectionary is a series of readings from the Scriptures designed to be used from week to week as the basis for preaching and worship. The use of a lectionary enables congregations to hear and engage with a breadth of the Scriptures across a defined period of time. In the case of the Revised Common Lectionary promoted by the Uniting Church, that period is a three-year repeating cycle. For many congregations where a wide roster of preachers take services, the use of the lectionary also brings some consistency from week to week.
Each year, the Assembly produces a leaflet with the Lectionary readings for the current Church Year. It includes an introduction to Preaching in the Year of Matthew, along with information about relevant books, online resources, podcasts and publications which may be useful for those preaching from the Lectionary.
This leaflet is available for sale in printed form from MediaCom Education (Order Here). A pdf can also be downloaded here.
