John Cox
National Safe Church Unit - National Director
Being born in Mt Isa in North West Queensland, John grew up in Brisbane, completing a teaching degree following school. Following his teaching career, John volunteered with the Uniting Church across 2 years before candidating for ministry in 1993.
After completing a BTh, John served as a congregational minister for 10 years before serving in the Queensland Synod office in a variety of roles for a further 8 years. During this period in the Qld Synod office, John was responsible for the Queensland Synod response to the Royal Commission, chairing, for a time, its Synod Task group.
John was appointed to the Executive Officer role of the Uniting Church’s Royal Commission National Task Group in 2016 where he has sought to resource the Church to not only engage with the Royal Commission, but to implement learnings from the Commission’s work. John is currently Director of the Uniting Church National Safe Church Unit, leading the process of application of the Royal Commission’s recommendations across the breadth of the Church.
John completed a Grad Cert Business, majoring in Philanthropic and Not for Profit studies and serves as President and Chair of the board for Jabiru Community Youth and Children’s Services and Chair of Community Learning Limited which runs Jabiru Community College, a special assistance school.
