Back to School Strike 4 Climate - 15 May 2020
A nationwide climate action led by school students is taking place on Friday 15 May.
Whilst there are many issues of concern during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important not to lose focus on the crucial issues confronting our planet and all creation brought about by climate change.
This crisis and the current lockdown globally have shown us, in small ways, how the planet can recover if we reduce our carbon outputs and pollution generally.
As countries like ours gradually return to normal, it is important that economic recovery and government policy move us into a sustainable future for all creation.
Like everything else during this time of lockdown, this Climate Action is going to be quite different to the one we encouraged people to join last September.
If you are able, we encourage all Uniting Church members to show their support of all students across the world and the leadership they are showing.
The Action is taking place online, with a number of different opportunities for people to participate.
- Uniting Earth have developed liturgy resources here. We encourage your Church to participate in this liturgy on Sunday 10 May.
- The Assembly will prepare a brief reflection and prayer from President Dr Deidre Palmer for use in your worship on 17 May. This will be available in next week’s National Update.
- A multifaith online service will be held on 15 May at 10am AEST. Organised by the Australian Religious Response to Climate Change, it aims to show support to school students across the world. Uniting Church President Dr Deidre Palmer will be helping to lead the worship. You can find a Facebook event for it here.
- Attend the online strike interactive livestream on 15 May.
