16th Assembly
UCA Act2

Arrangements for Holy Communion

The Assembly has received a number of requests to consider the possibility of Uniting Church congregations conducting Holy Communion online during this period of self-isolation and physical distancing during the Covid-19 crisis.

The Assembly is considering this and the Assembly Standing Committee will make a decision by close of business Friday 3 April 2020.

If permission is granted, the Assembly will also provide guidelines for authorised presiders to follow.

If permission is granted, it will be seen as a temporary pastoral measure for the period of COVID-19 isolation measures.

The Assembly is also working on making available a “Liturgy of Empty Hands” which has been shaped by a number of Uniting Church people, including our Seeking Common Ground’ Advocate, Rev Dr Amelia Koh-Butler.

This liturgy can be used by a dispersed community who are unable to celebrate Communion.  We will provide a link to download this by Friday April 3 as well.
