The Uniting Church in Australia is beginning an important process of discernment to identify the next President-elect of the Assembly.
Ahead of the 18th Assembly, the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC), Presbyteries and Synods have the privilege and opportunity to identify people who may be nominated for election as President-elect (Reg. 3.6.4.1).
Nominations arise from prayerful consideration and conversations among members of the Church, UAICC, Presbyteries and Synods are therefore encouraged to begin discerning potential nominees well ahead of the closing date, considering both the gifts and experience of those who might serve and the needs of the Church in the period ahead.
To support this discernment, the Assembly Standing Committee (ASC) has identified issues, challenges and opportunities likely to face the Church, drawing on its engagement with the life and business of the Assembly over the past three years.
The ASC has appointed a President-elect Nomination Committee, which will conduct a search for suitable candidates and undertake relevant checks of all nominees.
For the 18th Assembly, the ASC has granted an exemption from the usual requirement for nominations to be received 90 days before the Assembly, reducing the period to 60 days.
Nominations close on 9 May 2027.
A Nomination Form and Profile Form are available along with the issues paper. The Profile Form is completed by the nominee and may be submitted with the nomination before the closing date.
Synods and Presbyteries are also reminded nominations for representatives for the 18th Assembly are due by 30 November.
