Advice on the deadline for applications to the National Redress Scheme
November 19, 2025
UCA Redress and the Uniting Church Assembly wish to remind the Uniting Church and wider community of the deadline for applications to the National Redress Scheme: 30 June 2027.
The National Redress Scheme commenced on 1 July 2018 in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The Scheme is for people who experienced child sexual abuse while in an institution.
The Scheme:
- acknowledges the widespread sexual abuse of children in Australian institutions
- recognises the suffering endured by survivors
- holds institutions accountable for the abuse
- helps people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse gain access to counselling, a direct personal response from the Church, and a redress payment.
The Uniting Church has affirmed its commitment to justice for survivors and is committed to proactively participating in the Scheme in a trauma informed way.
The Uniting Church encourages people who may be eligible to apply for redress under the Scheme. The closing date for applications to the Scheme is 30 June 2027. After 30 June 2027, people will not be able to apply for redress under the National Redress Scheme.
