The Uniting Church in Australia Assembly is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Paul Minty as the new Executive Officer for the Commission for Governance, Resourcing and Administration. Paul will commence in the role on Monday, 15 September.
This Commission is one of two National Commissions established by the 17th Assembly as part of the Act2 Project, a transformative initiative shaping the future of the Church’s life and witness. The Commissions are central to supporting faithful discipleship and renewal across the Uniting Church in contemporary Australia.
Paul brings to the role a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership experience and ministry engagement. With a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, he has worked as a research engineer and designed numerous major supply chains. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer of a medical device startup, guiding its development of a Parkinson’s treatment in collaboration with international teams.
Paul has long been active in church life – from youth ministry and intentional Christian communities to chairing the Joint Church Council of the Banyule Network of Uniting Churches in Melbourne. He recently completed a Diploma of Theology at Pilgrim Theological College in the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania
Paul is passionate about strengthening the Church’s mission. “I love seeing grassroots compassion and how it can transform communities,” he says. “I believe this [new] role will be a great use of the skills and experiences that I have accumulated … to help free up compassionate people to do the work they are called to do.”
He added that he prays that the Commission’s “work results in encouragement and empowerment for people across the whole Uniting Church in Australia to participate in Christ’s mission of reconciliation.”
In his limited spare time, Paul enjoys sailing small boats and golf although admits those activities may need to be put on hold as he gets up to speed in this new chapter of service.
It was an enriching day where members got to know one another, grounded in shared hope for the Uniting Church. The meeting included worship and reflection on the journey to this point, embracing the Assembly's mandate to realise the vision:
In this significant leadership role, Paul will work across the Assembly and the Uniting Church to offer leadership and support the work of the Governance, Resourcing and Administration Commission. The Commission is tasked with progressing the 17th Assembly vision for a network of deeply connected councils that respond to God’s call through healthy oversight of ministry and mission, celebrating the Church's diverse and shared identity, and being faithful stewards of its common life and wealth.
