ASC approves new Uniting Church regulations on discipline
The new regulations will replace the current Section 5 and come into effect on 1 January 2025
October 2, 2024
At its meeting in late August, the Assembly Standing Committee (ASC) approved a new set of Regulations concerning discipline within the Uniting Church in Australia. These new regulations will replace Section 5 of the current Regulations and will come into operation on 1 January 2025.
These new regulations on discipline are the result of a lengthy review process which began in 2018. In 2021, the ASC determined to narrow the scope of the review, given the possibility of further large-scale changes to the Regulations as a result of the Act2 Project.
At that time, the Synod of Queensland volunteered to take a lead in the process, consulting broadly and analysing the needs in Church terms of discipline processes.
“We are grateful for the effort put into this project by staff of the Queensland Synod," said Assembly General Secretary Rev Lindsay Cullen. "We look forward to seeing the fruit of their labours in the implementation of these new regulations."
The new Regulations can be read and downloaded below. The Assembly will be making resources available over the coming weeks to support the Church to implement them.
