'Every conversation matters': NCPW 2024
The Uniting Church Assembly and National Safe Church Unit have released a new poster in recognition of National Child Protection Week
August 30, 2024
This coming week, 1-7 September, marks National Child Protection Week (NCPW) across Australia. Running now for over 30 years, this week is an effort to engage and educate all Australians on the part they have to play in keeping our children and young people safe.
The first Sunday in September is recognised in the Uniting Church as Child Safe Sunday. No matter whether your congregation formally celebrates on this date, or witnesses through other programs, we encourage everyone to reflect on how we can be a safe church for all people.
As a whole church and as communities of faith, the Uniting Church in Australia has a deep commitment to creating a culture of safety so that all people, including children and vulnerable people, may live life in all its fullness. We believe children are gifts of God to be received, welcomed and cared for responsibly and justly.
In recognition of this week, the Uniting Church Assembly and National Safe Church Unit have released a new poster inspired by the 2024 NCPW theme, ‘Every conversation matters’. The theme is an encouragement to speak up and speak together about what needs to happen so that every child in every community can safely grow and flourish.
We invite Uniting Church communities to display the poster as a constant reminder of our commitments and a prompt for conversations in your part of the Church. We also invite you to set aside a time that works for your community to remember and recommit to our shared call to be a safe church for all.
A prayer from Uniting Church President Rev Charissa Suli will be available soon for use by Uniting Church communities at a time that suits them.
Other resources for congregations and more information about our commitments can be found on the National Safe Church website, including other posters:
- Principles of a Child Safe Uniting Church in Australia (available in other languages on the website)
- A Safe Church is who we are called to be
You can also find the official NAPCAN 2024 poster here.
The Uniting Church in Australia has a deep commitment to creating safe environments so that all people, including children and vulnerable people, may live life in all its fullness.
