"Digital violence is real violence": 16 Days of Activism begins
Alongside the President Rev Charissa Suli, voices from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific share this message for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence
November 20, 2025
Alongside Uniting Church President Rev Charissa Suli, voices from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific have united to send a message for this year's 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.
Inspired by the 2025 global theme, 'End digital violence against all women and girls', the message was filmed at the 2025 President's Conference on the island of Tongatapu, Tonga. We are particularly grateful for the involvement of the incredible women running the Women and Children Crisis Centre in Nuku'alofa, which supports women and girls across all the islands of Tonga.
As the Uniting Church we affirm that gender-based violence, like all violence, is against the will of God. We are committed to advocating for a Church and world where all may flourish in equality, safety and respect.

The 16 Days of Activism is a global UN Women-led campaign which begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.
Gender-based violence is one of Australia’s most significant social challenges. On average, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner and 1 in 4 women has experienced violence, emotional abuse, or economic abuse by a partner since the age of 15 (Our Watch).
Other resources:
- Beyond Violence: The Assembly's key resource on domestic and family violence includes key information, statistics and toolkits, resources for worship and prayer.
- Break the Silence Sunday: The Pacific Conference of Churches (PCC) has made a worship liturgy available for Break the Silence Sunday, a day to reflect on the power of working together to end violence against women and girls in the Pacific. This could be a great resource for your community during the 16 Days of Activism.
