Get to know Rev. David McGregor

Rev. David McGregor is a Panel Member for the Transforming Worship Circle. He shares some of his story.

I am nearing the end of my fifth year in ministry at Wellers Hill-Tarragindi Uniting Church in inner south-eastern Brisbane. I love being part of an intergenerational community that seeks to go deeper in faith, discipleship, worship and inclusion in Christ.

Our congregation has embarked on a journey along with five other surrounding small-medium sized Uniting Church communities exploring new expressions in mission. It is called Destiny Together. Exciting times.

I am particularly passionate about the church’s worshipping life, including the place of music in growing discipleship and community, as well as Christian education across the ages.

I am a published worship songwriter with a commitment to the national UCA SONGWRITE movement. For 18years my www.togethertocelebrate.com.au site has offered a broad array of Lectionary-linked worship song suggestions.

In 2017 I released a studio-recorded CD of worship songs: More Than Dream. My song Your Grace and Your Hope was the theme song for the July 2018 National UCA Assembly.

I’m married to Dale and have three adult sons and one grandson. I am a friend of the Iona Community and long ago was a primary school teacher.

I’m a sporting tragic, passionate about cricket, rugby league and tennis ... but ordinary at all three. Go the Brisbane Broncos!

A story which shows why I am passionate about worship:

Rosemary, in her mid 80s and from my congregation, started writing poetry some months ago for the first time in her life. The worshipping community encouraged this and recently, with some editing by me, Rosemary’s contemporary hymn found expression in Sunday worship. Worship and particularly God whom we worship and serve makes all things possible. Faith and life flowers.

One hope that I have for the Circle is that through worship in the UCA, through the wonderful diversity of contexts, expressions and experiences, people younger and older will grow deeper and more vibrant into the new life Jesus Christ offers the world.
