The Advocate for the Discipling the Next Generations Circle is Steve Molkentin.
We asked Steve to share a little about himself.
Just call me Molk (unless I’m in trouble – then it’s Steve Molkentin).
What I’m doing now: Working for Queensland Synod as the Mission Officer (Generation Next), and leading our Digital Youth Discipleship program, BreadFishToo.
My greatest achievement is my family
Encouraging people to take their faith seriously online and IRL.
My parents and grandparents always taught me so, so much. How to be hospitable, how to show compassion and how to love big. Also embedded deeply in me a love of cricket and Lego.
Someone who inspires me is a friend who is also in ministry. Their ability to see through the things that confuse me and help me see direction, as much as for their encouragement.
My favourite Bible chapter? I love the two letters to the Corinthians, as much as I love the Harry Potter series and a good biography.
The list of television shows I love is longer than we have room to print… though you should be watching GLOW & Disenchantment (Netflix), Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (Foxtel), Better Call Saul and The US Office (Stan) and all three seasons of You Can’t Ask That (ABC iview).
The future of the Uniting Church is in good hands as we give more and more of it over to our young people to allow them to lead us. They’re ready – we need to let them.
Why I’m passionate about this Circle: I’m lucky that I get to work in a role that I’m passionate about. I see every day what God is doing with the young people of the Uniting Church and their deep and passionate heart for our wider community. How exciting is it that we get to engage with Generation Next, encourage them and work with them as together we find new ways for them to lead us into the future! We have amazing capable and gifted youth and young adults that should be leading us and shaping what the church looks right now. I am privileged to work with them and encourage them as we continue to be the pilgrim people God calls us to be.
