One year after Royal Commission, action needed on aged care workforce
March 2, 2022
UnitingCare Australia has joined major aged care providers in calling on the Australian Government to take immediate action on aged care wages, training, and 24-hour nursing.
“The Royal Commission report is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to overhaul aged care so that we can give older Australians the care and respect they need and deserve,” said Claerwen Little, national Director of UnitingCare Australia. Ms Little also chairs the Australian Aged Care Collaboration which is the main national body for aged care providers.
“While the response by the Federal Government in the May Budget in 2021 is welcome, we have not seen a detailed plan to consult and deliver on the announced reforms," said Ms Little. "Modelling for the Royal Commission also shows that, after so many years of underfunding, the investments announced will fall short of what is needed.”
