UCA Act2

Act2: where are we?

Right now the Uniting Church is engaged in a national conversation about its future. The Act2 project is the biggest conversation we are having as the UCA – a whole-of-Church process and approach to discerning the future to which God is calling us.

Act2 is a process with many parts. Here we break down where we've been, where we are, and how to get involved right now.

From December 2020 to April 2021, we ran an open survey and six online conversations to seek the national Church's insights, experiences, and learnings. Over 600 responses were received from people and communities in every UCA context.

In October 2021 we released Act2: Considering Afresh Our Life Together, our report on the feedback and potential directions. Attached to this report is a second, ongoing survey so you can let us know whether we've heard it right and help us discern the next steps.

Now, people across the Uniting Church are reflecting on our foundations and theological identity through a new study series on the Basis of Union. The Assembly Circles of Interest are thinking about the future shape of the Church's work in key areas of worship and witness, and other conversations continue across the national UCA.

With opportunities to give feedback open until the end of January, here are six ways to get involved in the Act2 project right now.

Refresh your memory about the Act2 task and your invitation to get involved

In launching the Act2 project we shared an introduction outlining the background, vision and task. For a refresher, catch up here.

Check out the latest Act2 report with our interactive website

The Act2: Considering Afresh Our Life Together report outlines potential future directions based on the rich insights of the first survey and national conversations. The full report is now available to read, along with a video snapshot and message from the President. You can also watch the Facebook live recording of the launch. Click here to go straight to the survey.

Make your voice heard through the open survey

We continue to invite your experiences, insights, and responses to the Act2 report through a second open survey. Every single response informs our collective thinking about how we can move boldly and with faith into the future. Let us know: what are the challenges, strengths and possibilities from where you stand? What’s your take on the report?

Take a fresh look at the Basis of Union

At the centre of the current Act2 phase is a new study series on the Basis of Union, the Uniting Church’s foundational document and one of the most enduring resources we have for thinking about the kind of church God is calling us to be. You might like to form a group in your local context and engage the studies together, reflecting on how our identity grounds our thinking about the future and how we might innovate with integrity on tradition.

Continue the Act2 conversation in your local context

It is vital we hear the views and perspectives of local Uniting Church communities across the country, and so we invite you to begin a conversation in your local place about Act2 through the lens of your work or ministry. Whether you are a presbytery, church council, committee, school or agency, make your voice heard by filling out the survey as a collective. You can also email us directly.

Continue the conversation in an Assembly Circle

The Assembly Circles of Interest are currently thinking about Act2 in relation to key areas of the UCA’s witness, mission and ministry: worship, justice, reconciliation, ecumenism, faith formation, multiculturalism and diversity. Get involved in these crucial conversations by joining a Circle.
