48 Regulations – Membership of UAICC

That the Assembly resolve:

To request the Standing Committee, on the advice of the Legal Reference Committee, to amend Regulation 3.2.1(a) so that it reads:

  • All Aboriginal and Islander members of the Church have a right to be members of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (“the Congress”).

Proposer:

Garry Dronfield

Seconder:

Dianne Torrens

Rationale:

At present all Indigenous people who are members of the UCA are automatically members of Congress; they have no choice. This can impact on such things as candidature and other rights in the Church. This proposal gives people a right to belong to Congress, and also a choice to not join.
